Description:

Developmental trauma has deleterious effects on social skills, cognitive abilities, and learning due to changes in the brain in response to these experiences. This webinar will discuss relevant research and speech-language treatment approaches for children and adolescents who have experienced developmental trauma.

This webinar is part of the SIGnature Series, a collection of webinars developed by volunteers from ASHA’s Special Interest Groups, who share practical, evidence-based suggestions and solutions based on their in-depth knowledge, clinical experiences, and passion for their specialty areas. This webinar was developed by SIG 1: Language Learning and Education.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • Describe the potential impacts of developmental trauma on speech and language skills
  • Identify core concepts of trauma-sensitive approaches
  • Discuss ways to incorporate trauma-informed strategies into speech and language services
