Working With Adolescents Who Stutter

Summary: The articles in this journal self-study explore a variety of aspects of working with adolescents who stutter. Summary: Two big challenges in evaluating dual language learners with reading disorders are determining (1) the best testing tools and (2) the language for assessment. This webinar will explore specific components of a reading assessment for English-Spanish bilinguals and share interventions that can facilitate reading across languages. While the course will focus primarily on Spanish and English learners, the speaker will include examples from other languages and the types of reading difficulties that students experience.

Summary: Social communication involves the integration of language processing, pragmatics, and social and emotional learning, and is a challenge for children who present with developmental language disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and social communication disorder. This session presents a bibliotherapeutic intervention approach that SLPs can implement within a plan-do-review format. This practical approach utilizes brief (~15 minutes) story sharing, story enactment, and journaling activities. The speakers present preliminary efficacy data for the intervention approach as well as provide materials and resources for its implementation. This course is a recorded session from the 2020/2021 online conference “Practical Solutions for Elementary Assessment, Treatment, and Collaboration.”

Summary: This on demand webinar (available beginning November 18, 2020) will demonstrate how to incorporate cultural and linguistic diversity in an authentic way when teaching basic speech science courses.
