Summary: This course is one part of a four-course learning path/course set, Foundations of Effective Supervision. This on demand webinar will focus on the impact of diversity on the supervisory relationship and the importance of cultural competence in clinical supervision. Speakers will examine the influence that language, labeling, stereotyping, and implicit bias have on the supervisor and supervisee, as well as discuss strategies and techniques to improve cultural competencies for supervising SLPs and audiologists. The webinar will review the literature on diversity and cultural competence in supervision; discuss biases, power imbalance, cultural humility, and self-analysis; and include case studies and activities that provide supervisors an opportunity to consider their own cultural identity and ways in which this identity influences their supervisory alliance. Summary: Reliance on standardized test scores can be a major contributor to misdiagnosis of bilingual children with speech and language impairment. In this course, a panel of researchers and practitioners discuss standardized tests and misdiagnosis, interpretation of policy on diagnostic eligibility for services, and strategies for advocating for the use of best practices to qualify children for services.

Summary: A challenge in conducing dynamic assessment - an alternative to standardized testing that accounts for individuals' unique cultural and linguistic identities - is putting together all the information to make a clinical decision. In this course - which is broken into six 5-minute blocks - speaker Elizabeth Peña discusses using dynamic assessment to identify indicators of language difference and language disorder and how to incorporate this information into a clinical report and intervention plan. Peña gives examples and guides you through making recommendations about intervention based on dynamic assessment results.

Summary: Providing effective, efficient, and impactful services to students on our growing caseloads, requires innovation and flexibility with various service delivery options. This on demand webinar (available beginning April 30, 2021) will use case examples to illustrate ways SLPs can confidently recommend and implement consultative services to our colleagues and families we work with. The speaker will also use case examples to demonstrate how collaborative consultation and coaching can work with different age groups, severity levels, and intervention targets.
