Summary: This on demand webinar (available beginning November 18, 2020) will explore service delivery modifications as well as evaluation and treatment principles for velopharyngeal dysfunction in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Summary: Effective communication is a foundational leadership function and a vital characteristic of a competent leader. Given the unique role, leaders play in driving change and leading others through challenges, communication for leaders is much more complicated and nuanced than for individual contributors. Summary: Recent events have placed a renewed spotlight on racial disparities in health care outcomes, how they are addressed in clinical settings, and the impact of clinical service delivery on clinical outcomes. Similarly, these events have highlighted the impact of systems of oppression in higher education, which translate to clinical service delivery in speech-language pathology as well as other disciplines. This course explores how health disparities and systems of oppression are affecting clinical settings and clinical outcomes for communication and swallowing services delivered to individuals of advanced age. Speakers discuss how clinicians can address health disparities and disrupt oppression in their work settings and ultimately improve clinical outcomes for all. Summary: Learning to gesture or use aided AAC for intentional communication with a partner is challenging for some infants and toddlers with complex communication needs. This session explores a variety of intervention strategies that improve pre-intentional and intentional communication skills using various AAC modalities and some of which incorporate families and caregivers. The speaker shares live illustrations and video examples of young children who have various difficulties with pre-intentional communication and problem solves about how intervention can structure the learner’s experiences to fill in gaps. Summary: This course discusses clinical considerations for stuttering assessment and treatment when working with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Speakers focus on Black, Hispanic, Latino/a/x, and LGBTQIAP+ populations, though principles can be applied to other cultural groups.
