Summary: This on demand webinar (available beginning November 18, 2020) will explore service delivery modifications as well as evaluation and treatment principles for velopharyngeal dysfunction in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Speakers will address service delivery considerations during the pandemic for individuals with cleft palate and associated craniofacial or velopharyngeal conditions who may experience resonance, speech sound production, voice, feeding and swallowing, dental and orthodontic, hearing, and psychosocial difficulties. Summary: Recent events have placed a renewed spotlight on racial disparities in health care outcomes, how they are addressed in clinical settings, and the impact of clinical service delivery on clinical outcomes. Similarly, these events have highlighted the impact of systems of oppression in higher education, which translate to clinical service delivery in speech-language pathology as well as other disciplines. This course explores how health disparities and systems of oppression are affecting clinical settings and clinical outcomes for communication and swallowing services delivered to individuals of advanced age. Speakers discuss how clinicians can address health disparities and disrupt oppression in their work settings and ultimately improve clinical outcomes for all. Summary: This course explores considerations, recommendations, strategies, and resources to support school-based SLPs as they navigate the challenges of hybrid and remote instructional models, which many SLPs are now using due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Presenters will discuss practical strategies for conducting assessments in person and via telepractice, recommended language to use within reports and associated documentation, and ideas for increasing student engagement in virtual settings. Summary: The business aspects of health care delivery and resultant SLP experiences, such as increased productivity requirements and disparities in patient access, may feel unfair. The paradoxical experience of providing patient-centered care and maximizing patient outcomes while wrestling with workload demands and economic pressures can affect SLPs’ independent clinical judgement, contributions to patient care, and value added. In this session—the opening session from the 2021 online conference “Empowered SLPs in Health Care: Breaking Barriers and Shaping Solutions”—the presenter shares ways to design your own professional pathway to confront the challenges and feel empowered to influence change. Summary: Even before the COVID-19 pandemic required clinicians to rapidly adapt their practice for remote service provision, researchers were already exploring effective telehealth approaches for audiology. The articles in this journal self-study (selected from a special issue of the American Journal of Audiology, “4th International Meeting on Internet and Audiology”) examine teleaudiology tools and methodologies for hearing screenings, home-based auditory assessment for people who use cochlear implants, assessing hearing aid outcomes using ecological momentary assessment (EMA), and a tool for evaluating hearing aid performance.

The speakers introduce the role of an expert witness, in contrast to the role of a fact witness, and review the qualifications and distinctive roles and responsibilities of an expert witness, with a focus on relevant laws (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, IDEA, and ADA).
